Collection includes a 11 page personal narrative of Christian Schurr's experiences as a prisoner of war during the Civil War. He details being captured at Petersburg, Virginia in June 1864, and subsequently confined at Confederate prisons, first at Macon, Georgia, then at Columbia, South Carolina, from which he escaped in December 1864. Other items include certificate of membership in the Lew Benedict Post no. 5 of the Grand Army of the Republic, 2 July 1882.
